UnderPar vs Fantasy Premier League: what's different?
If you play Fantasy Premier League, UnderPar will feel familiar and completely different at the same time. Here's how the two compare.
A new team every week
In FPL you build one squad and slowly change it with transfers. In UnderPar you pick a completely fresh XI every Gameweek. There are no transfers to save, no hits to take and no wildcards to plan. If you had a bad week, you start again from scratch.
No budget
FPL gives you £100m and every player has a price. UnderPar has no prices at all. You can pick any 11 players you like, within a few simple rules: exactly one goalkeeper, at least three defenders and three midfielders, no more than three attackers, and players from at least six clubs.
Ratings, not points
FPL scores goals, assists, clean sheets and bonus points. A defender who plays brilliantly but concedes a late goal can end up with almost nothing. UnderPar scores every player on his FotMob match rating, which looks at his whole game: passing, defending, chances made and mistakes. A great performance gets rewarded even if the result doesn't go his way.
Scored like golf
This is the big one. Every player gets a PAR, the rating we expect from him in that fixture. He scores his PAR minus his real rating, so beating his PAR gives a negative score. Add up your 11, and the lowest total wins.
That changes how you think about picks. In FPL, the best players are usually the best picks, so everybody ends up with the same team. In UnderPar the best players carry the toughest PARs, so the smart pick is often someone the rest of your league has never thought about.
No captain, no bench, no chips
Every player counts once. There's no captain to double, no bench to fill and no chips to time. If a player doesn't play, or plays without getting a rating, he scores +0.3.
Leagues with your mates
Like FPL, you can play your friends in private leagues. Start up to three leagues of your own or join one with a code. The table shows each team's Gameweek score and season total, and everyone's XI is revealed at the deadline.
Can I play both?
Of course. Plenty of our players do. UnderPar takes a few minutes a week, there's no squad to keep track of, and it's a good way to put your knowledge of the less famous players to use.
